Welcoming Our New Entrant Whānau
It was absolutely lovely to welcome our newest Fernside tamariki and their families to our New Entrant Open Morning last Thursday!
Our incoming students had a wonderful time meeting their future classmates and teachers, exploring their new learning spaces, and getting a taste of what school life will be like. At the same time, it was fantastic to connect with parents over morning tea, share an overview of our school community, and walk through the practicalities around uniforms, stationery, and administration.
Thank you to all the new parents who joined us, asked great questions, and brought along their completed forms and documentation. We are so excited to officially welcome you and your tamariki into our Fernside School whānau!

Book Fair Success!
A massive THANK YOU to everyone who visited and supported our Scholastic Book Fair! Thanks to your incredible generosity, total sales reached an amazing $4,200. This fantastic result means Fernside receives $1,450 in Scholastic Credit, which will go directly toward purchasing fabulous new books and resources for our school library and classrooms. Your support makes a huge difference in fostering a love of reading across our whole school community!

Keeping Our Community Safe: Car Park Reminder
To help keep our whole community safe at drop-off and pick-up times, could we please ask all drivers to not park on the grassed area near the car park?
When cars are parked on this grass patch, it restricts the view onto Oxford Road for vehicles exiting the school grounds. Keeping this area clear gives everyone a safe, clear line of sight when turning onto the main road.
Thank you for working with us to keep our roads and tamariki safe!

Garden Club News
Our Garden Club has been hard at work and has some very special acknowledgments this week: Canterbury Rose Society: A huge "Thank You" for generously donating 40 miniature roses, pots, and soil for our tamariki! Our students will be carefully caring for these roses over the coming months to make sure they look their absolute best for the Rose Society Show on November 21st. Andrea Cornwell: Another giant "Thank You" to Andrea for all her wonderful support, creative ideas, and for providing the resources needed to bring those ideas to life.
Art Shirts Needed: Could all Garden Club students please bring an old art shirt to school? Many thanks for your help with this!

Attendance Management Plan
At Fernside School, consistent attendance is vital for supporting student learning and well-being. As part of our commitment to active attendance management and fulfilling our legal obligations, we have recently begun issuing notification letters via Hero when a student reaches certain attendance thresholds. Please consider this a gentle heads-up that you may receive a notification if your child’s attendance triggers a threshold. We understand that absences are often due to illness or genuine family reasons; however, we are legally obligated to notify parents and actively manage attendance across the school. We appreciate your understanding and continued partnership in keeping us informed regarding your child's attendance.

Back Field Rules
With the seasonal, unpredictable weather lately, we’ve noticed quite a few muddy uniforms coming back into classrooms after break times!
To help keep our indoor areas clean, our rules for playing on the back field during breaks are; no bare feet and no socks, and all shoes must be removed before stepping inside.
If your child enjoys running around outside, we strongly suggest sending them to school with a change of trackpants/shorts, or having them wear shorts underneath their long pants that can easily be removed if muddy. Thank you for helping us reinforce these expectations at home so our tamariki can enjoy running around outside without the muddy cleanup!
