Newsletter Term 3 Week 7
Fernside School - August 30th, 2026

Kia ora koutou e te Whānau,

What a wonderful week it has been across the school! It is always such a joy to see our students representing Fernside with pride, giving maximum effort, and supporting one another in everything they do.
What a fantastic day at the Rakahuri Winter Tournament! A huge congratulations to all of our Year 5–8 students who competed on Tuesday! Whether out on the netball courts, football fields, hockey turf, or rugby pitches, our teams displayed fantastic sportsmanship, determination, and teamwork.
It was privilege to see our GROW values shine bright in the way our children encouraged their teammates, respected their opponents and referees, and gave every single game their all.
An event like this requires a huge amount of effort behind the scenes. A massive THANK YOU to our dedicated staff, along with all the wonderful parents, caregivers, and supporters who coached, managed, transported teams, and cheered loudly from the sidelines. Your ongoing support ensures our children can take part in these fantastic opportunities.

Production Logistics

The Heart of Fernside - The 2026 School Production

We are getting very excited to bring you the school production on the 15th of September at the Ohoka School Hall.

We would like to share some organisational information that will assist you with planning for the day.

Dress Rehearsal Monday:
On Monday the 14th of September, the whole school will travel to Ohoka School with all props / costumes etc to run through two dress rehearsals. We will take bags, lunches and be at Ohoka School until 2pm, when we will return to Fernside School.

Matinee Show:
On Tuesday, we will travel by bus to Ohoka School in costume. The Matinee Show starts at 10.30 and should finish around 12.30pm. The buses will take the students back to school for the afternoon.

Night Show:
Please be at the Ohoka Hall at 5.45 in costume / makeup if required. The children need to sit down in the back of the hall on the bleachers and your child’s homeroom teacher will greet your child here. If you have tickets for the night show you can wait outside until it is time to come in. If you are not attending you can drop off at 5.45 and then return to pick up your child at approx 8.30pm (exact time to be confirmed). We will keep your children in the hall until you arrive.

Wednesday Morning:
If your child is tired from Tuesday night, they are able to start school at morning tea. Please let the office and homeroom teacher know they will be in at this time.

We hope this answers any questions you may have. We look forward to sharing with you the talented students of Fernside School!

Rakahuri Winter Tournament - Highlights

What a fantastic day our students had representing Fernside School at the recent Rakahuri Winter Sports Tournament!
It was wonderful to see our children competing with such enthusiasm, skill, and determination across all sports. The players gave it their all on the field, showing awesome teamwork, sportsmanship, and pride in representing our school.
A special shoutout to our Year 5/6 hockey team, who had an outstanding tournament -winning all of their games except one and tying for 1st place on overall points! While they narrowly missed out on the final as they were short on goals overall for the count back, their effort was exceptional.
One of the best moments of the day was seeing our Year 5/6 players standing by to cheer on and warmly welcome our Year 7/8 team off the field at the end of their game. We are thrilled to share that both teams have qualified for the Canterbury Tournament!
A massive thank you to all our coaches, managers, drivers, scorers, and sideline supporters. Events like this simply cannot happen without your time and backing, and our students appreciate you immensely. Congratulations to all our players who took part and made us proud!

Staff Paint & Sip Afternoon

Our staff had a wonderful afternoon on Tuesday participating in our very first Fernside "Paint & Sip" event! It was a fantastic opportunity for our team to slow down, tap into their creative sides, and enjoy a few laughs together outside of the regular school day.
A massive thank you goes to some of our incredible Senior students, who took care of all the planning, preparing, and setup to make the afternoon run so smoothly - you did an absolute stellar job! We also extend our huge appreciation to Andrew Spencer for his hard work in organising such a fun and memorable event.
