Newsletter Term 3 Week 2
Fernside School - July 26, 2026
Kia ora koutou e te Whānau,
Welcome to Week 2! It has been wonderful seeing our tamariki back in their routines and settling into another exciting term of learning.
A huge thank you to all the parents and caregivers who attended our Parent/Teacher interviews this week! It was fantastic to see such a huge turnout. Strong partnerships between home and school are so vital to student success, and we truly value the time you took to connect with our teachers, celebrate achievements, and discuss next steps for your children. Thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration!
As we continue the Year of GROW, we are constantly reminded of how powerful our school values are when we use them every day:
A wonderful example of this in action is our dedicated Enviro Schools team. Behind the scenes, they have been working hard to think of ways to get our rubbish problems under control. By showing Respect for our environment and Working together to care for our school grounds, they are putting our values into practice in a really meaningful way.
Looking Ahead: Ski Trips & Adaptive Learning ⛷️🔬🎨
We have an incredibly exciting week coming up! We are really looking forward to our ski trips next week, as well as a very cool adaptive programme for the children at school. This on-site programme will be rich in the sciences, the arts, and so much more, ensuring every tamariki has an engaging and inspiring week of learning.
Look out for more details coming out early next week!

Second-Hand Uniform
Our second-hand uniform stock is currently running quite low. If you have any pre-loved Fernside uniform items in good, tidy condition that your children have outgrown, please consider donating them back to the school!
Donations can be dropped off at the main office anytime during school hours. These sales are a wonderful resource for our families, and all funds raised go right back into supporting our school.

Health Reminder: Head Lice
We have had the odd case of head lice reported recently. This is a great time to do a quick check on your child’s hair this evening.
If you do spot any eggs or lice, please treat the hair before returning to school and kindly let your child’s teacher or the office know. Catching it early and treating it promptly helps us keep it from spreading across our learning spaces. Thank you so much for your co-operation!

Student Council Initiative: 'Crazy Hair' Non-Uniform Day!
Our Student School Council has taken the lead on an amazing cause, and we would love our community to get behind them!
Did you know that eight people discover they have blood cancer every day in New Zealand? That is a scary statistic. On Thursday, 3rd of September, (please note this differs to the date advertised nationwide) our Student Council will be holding a 'Crazy Hair Non-Uniform Day' to help save lives and ensure people with cancer get the support they need to get through.
- How to take part: Students can design a crazy hairdo, wear a fun wig, and come in non-uniform in exchange for a gold coin donation.
- Shave for a Cause: Some brave students can even choose to get sponsored to shave their hair off!
- Other ways to donate: If you would like to donate a little extra, please visit our fundraising page by using the QR Code below or clicking on the link.
Thank you for supporting our student leaders as they work to make a real difference!
