There is a fantastic buzz across the school at the moment! Walking around our learning spaces this week, you can truly feel the momentum building.
First, a huge congratulations to our incredible Cantamath teams who competed last week at Horncastle Arena. Facing off against top problem-solvers from all over Canterbury takes real grit, sharp critical thinking, and outstanding teamwork. We are so proud of how our team represented Fernside School, they showed fantastic determination and lived our GROW values every step of the way. Also, a special thank you to Mr Bailey for all his support and encouragement!
Behind the scenes, the energy is just as high as production rehearsals hit top gear! Our tamariki and staff are working tirelessly, learning lines, mastering choreography, creating props, and putting in enormous effort to build a spectacular show for our community. The dedication and enthusiasm from everyone involved is inspiring.
A big shout-out as well to our Year 8 students, who are hard at work with their upcoming fundraising projects! Thank you to all the families supporting their initiatives, every bit of community support helps make these milestone opportunities possible for our senior students.

Unbelievable effort from our Year 7 & 8 girls in the North Canterbury Netball Semi-Finals! Both Fernside Netball Club and Central Netball Club delivered a masterclass on the court, sinking precise shots, pulling off crucial intercepts, and showcasing top-tier teamwork from the centre pass to the final whistle. Both teams secured thrilling victories to lock in their spots for the Finals next weekend at Main Power Stadium. Huge congratulations, and best of luck for the championship games!

Calendar Art — Final Order Window
Thank you so much for all of your Calendar Art orders! The response has been fantastic, and we’ve had great feedback. We’ve also had a number of families asking for extra items or letting us know they missed the first order window. To make things easy for everyone, we are opening one final short order period to include all remaining requests.
Orders close: 31/08/26 (strictly no extensions).

Production Tickets
Ticket sales for our upcoming School Production are now open and moving steadily, with the evening performance selling particularly quickly! To ensure every family has the opportunity to see our talented tamariki perform, tickets are currently subject to a family limit of 3 during this initial sales window.
*Tuesday 15th September*
Matinee - 10.30am
Evening - 6.30pm
Initial Ticket Sales: Tickets are available to purchase at the school office until Friday 4th September.
Ticket Limit: Initially limited to 3 tickets per family to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to view the show.
General Sales: Any remaining tickets will go on general sale from Monday 7th September to Friday 11th September.
Price: $15 each (Cash or Eftpos available — no Credit Cards or Paywave).
Cap Notice: Please note that due to venue restraints tickets are strictly capped at 300 total available per session, so don't delay in securing yours!

PTA Book Donation Drive

Do you have children’s books at home that have outgrown their young readers? Our PTA is collecting gently used books to ensure classrooms are stocked with fresh, exciting stories for our younger students!
|
|
If you have books to spare, simply drop them into the collection bin located in the school office. Every donation—big or small—makes a real difference in fostering a love of reading across our school.

Online GP care now free for all under-14s
We have received the following information from our lovely Public Health Nurse that she would like for us to share with you...
With lots of winter illnesses about right now, health services are experiencing very high demand. If you need to speak to a GP and can’t get in to your usual doctor or its after hours, Online GP provides a great option for accessing safe and quick care. The service is available from anywhere in the country, anytime day or night, and is now free for all under-14s.
Appointments usually take place through a video app or a phone call, and the service can prescribe medicine and send prescriptions to your nearest pharmacy.

It also provides another care option for rural communities, reducing the need to travel.
